Streets, shapes, or neighborhood names?

Start with what you want to recognize when you look at the print. Is it a route through town, the shape of a neighborhood, or a name that belongs to home?

Street maps follow the way through.

Choose streets when a particular address, river crossing, or familiar route is the important part. You can move close enough to make a small area the subject of the print. The street-map collection shows actual examples.

Boundary maps show areas together.

Neighborhood shapes can show how one part of a city sits beside another. The studio offers colored areas and outlines where map data supports them. Check the coverage note: an official administrative area may have a different name or edge from the neighborhood you know.

Typography puts the names first.

In the text-only style, the letters take the shape of the mapped areas. Roads and water fills disappear, so the words carry the composition. Long names and small areas need careful checking. See the typography examples before choosing a size.
